thalias political archives
The archiving of the attic is almost complete . We found 60 banners in plastic bags and have 7 under bed storage containers containing  papers, letters, leaflets and  newscuttings in 32 categories sorted into separate sections for example the  environment, greenham , greenham sculpture, nuclear power, nuclear weapons, art, arts for labour and feminism. My helpers were Milda Norvaisite from Lithunia, Hamish Campbell from Vision on TV and Jenny Jauncey. Its been an exciting adventure reliving the 1980s onwards .. seeing the connections to the present time...there are still the photographs to archive..

Valium

Ths banner was made in the 1980s when a medical proffessional told me how the drug companies used a warped version  the labour 1940's  poster " now win  the peace" to promote tranquillisers to the medical professionals. The Labour  poster was of two search light making the V for victory sign above a group of homes. The drug companies said in effect dole out the tranquillisers and you dont need nurseries, social services  etc   On the medicine bottle it says "keep out of the reach of Children."The  pill's effect on the mothers had dangerous consequences for their children. One pill falling from the bottle says "Chemical warfare",another says.another says" Gentling the masses "  and another "mothers little helper" the stones song that was banned bt the BBC.
VALIUM AVOIDS   the grey fog of a valium patient
rEVOLUTION    with the hollow r take your pick evolution or  revolution are seamless
for ever and ever the blak of facism
AMEN  the final solution bring in the military
The net of valium clouds the homes and brains  of the  rich and poor especially women.

1970s A banner used at the womens liberation conferences.

banner stencilled, appliqued and embriodered made on  an old cotton sheet, in the early days of second wave feminism banners began to use the suffrage colours and women became more interested in their suffrage  sisters....
